A dance image a day…:

Written by  Carole Edrich

web-rights_lcp_udsc_2610zAs part of her day-by-day countdown to Big Dance Week 2012, July 7–15, Dance Today photographer Carole Edrich is posting a different dance-related photo a day on her blog (http://dancetog.com/). Each week, she will share an image with Dance Today. Here, Carole talks about this week's image...

This week has been fantastic for dance photography. It started with the launch of the countdown to Big Dance 2012 and continued on to a particularly busy Friday that included a flashmob at Westfields organised by East London Dance and English National Ballet and LCP Dance Theatre’s premiere Rights (?).

My first photo of the week continued my exploration of the challenges of photographing children. Then, because I heard that the Vuokatti Dance Festival is putting the finishing touches on their 2012 website, I posted some of my favourite shots from their festival last year.

I finished the week by sharing images of Rights (?) by LCP performed at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre. It’s such a visually arresting experience that the amateur photographer working next to me complained of finger-ache.

While the troupe was understandably nervous, the performance was, in places, so intriguing that I almost forgot to take photos. This is LCP’s first big production and a direct result of the BBC Dance Fellowship grant awarded to choreographer Mimmo Miccolis. What makes the achievement of these creatives even more inspirational is that they’re all expatriates and English isn’t even their first language.
