October 2007

The month of October always marks a new volume of Dancing Times, this will mark the 98th as we date from October 1910. We have taken the opportunity to introduce a few changes and design updates, notably the decision to run the Dance Scene International reviews in chronological order for easy reference, the UK items being followed by reports from overseas. The Letters page has been given clearer presentation; it is a page we value, as it is a platform open to our readers whose views we welcome. October also sees the inclusion of our new book and dvd catalogue, revised and updated for the autumn/winter season. It includes, of course, Julie Kavanagh’s monumental biography of Rudolf Nureyev which has already (rightly) been the subject of enormous media coverage. In November, our popular wall calendar for 2008 will be distributed, free, to all subscribers. In this issue we have interviews with Michael Corder, the Ballet Boyz, and the new directors of CandoCo. Many former colleagues pay tribute to the late Sonya Hana, Lady Wright. The Teachers & Training pages cover The Royal Ballet School summer course; the Yorkshire Ballet Seminars and their culminating gala; and the final gala of the All England Dance Competition at the Peacock Theatre. The series on Dancers’ Development comes to its conclusion but we have contact details for future planned workshops. Mary Goodhew, most happily, stays with us for many months to come as she takes us through the process of The Making of a Dancer.
