January 2008

As one dance-filled year ends, we look forward to many potentially exciting events in the early months of 2008. Spring Dance at the London Coliseum deserves much advance coverage about the companies and dancers to be seen. Next month Gerald Dowler talks to Wendy Whelan of New York City Ballet and in our March issue Mindy Aloff will re-introduce this great company, which has been too long absent from our shores. David Jays will preview the Stuttgart Ballet in that same issue. Also next month we shall preview the huge Move It exhibition at Olympia and shall report on the 2008 event (which takes place March 6-9) in April. In February we shall have a picture spread of Maris Liepa, the famous Bolshoi dancer who will be celebrated at a gala on February 21. By March, Kenneth Tharpe will have had several months in his new role at The Place, returning to take charge of the place where he trained and where he danced so brilliantly with London Contemporary Dance Theatre before going on to gain wide experience not only as a dancer but also as an administrator working in the field of education. Gerald Dowler will be talking to him about this new, important role. Zoë Anderson interviews Daria Klimentová of ENB in February and David Jays interviews The Royal Ballet’s Edward Watson in April; by then he will have made his debut in Kenneth MacMillan’s Different Drummer in the excellent triple bill The Royal Ballet launches in February. We also look forward to new Anthony Crickmay photographs. The study aids, starting March and written by Elizabeth Marshall, will be devoted to Serge Diaghilev. We can confidently look forward and wish all our readers a Happy New Year.
